5 Up in Week 14
Carson Wentz (QB, PHI)
“As the only QB with at least 40 pass attempts in each of his past three games, Wentz’s volume should produce a lot of fantasy points against a Giants defense that allows opposing quarterbacks to complete passes at the sixth-highest rate and to throw a touchdown on 5.7% of passes, the fourth-highest rate.” — Matthew Berry, ESPN.com
Devonta Freeman (RB, ATL)
“Devonta Freeman saw 21 touches in Week 13 as he returned from injury but he was bottled up most of the game by the Saints solid run defense. The matchup this week is much more encouraging as the Falcons host the leagues 29th ranked run defense. The Panthers have struggled to stop running backs all season and most recently allowed Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson to combine for 228 yards and three touchdowns on only 23 carries.” — Joshua Mutters, 5th Down Fantasy
“Freeman saw his second-most touches (21) in a game this season last week and gets a Carolina defense that ranks seventh against the pass and last versus the rush in DVOA, providing the best fantasy matchup for RBs over the last five weeks. Treat Freeman as a borderline RB1 in Week 14.” — Dalton Del Don, Yahoo! Sports
Todd Gurley (RB, LAR)
“In playing more than 77% of the snaps the past four weeks, Gurley has at least 20 touches, 100 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in two of his past three games. Now he gets a home game against a Seahawks defense that has allowed 13 rushing touchdowns this season (tied for third most) and has the second-worst red zone rushing touchdown percentage allowed.” — Matthew Berry, ESPN.com
DeVante Parker (WR, MIA)
“He comes into Week 14 with at least 11 PPR points in nine games in a row, including at least 15 PPR points in each of his past three games. In non-PPR leagues, he has either a touchdown or at least 90 receiving yards in seven of his past nine games.” — Jamey Eisenberg, CBSSports.com
“This week, it’s nearly impossible to bench him. Miami welcomes the Jets’ charitable secondary. On the year, New York has allowed just 6.9 pass yards per attempt, but the ninth-most fantasy points to WRs. His projected jousting opponent, Arthur Maulet, has conceded a 80.8 passer rating and 75.0 catch percentage.” — Brad Evans, Yahoo! Sports
Jamison Crowder (WR, NYJ)
“Since Sam Darnold returned to the lineup from mono in Week 6, Crowder is averaging 6.9 targets per game and has three touchdowns over his last five games. He leads the Jets in red-zone targets. When the Jets and Dolphins met back in Week 9, Crowder hung an 8-83-1 line on Miami as the week’s overall WR10.” — Nick Mensio, Rotoworld.com
Trust or Bust?
Matt Ryan (QB, ATL)
Trust: “Ryan’s matchup against Carolina has some shootout potential with one of the higher over/unders of the week (47.0), and Atlanta is expected to put up points at home (25.00 implied total).” — Kenyatta Storin, NumberFire.com
Bust: “This week he faces a third straight division rival in the Carolina Panthers, a team that Ryan struggled to produce against back in Week 11. Despite defeating Carolina in that contest (29-3), Ryan only threw a single touchdown pass and posted a fantasy finish of just 16 points.” — Derek McCauley, 5th Down Fantasy
LeSean McCoy (RB, KC)
Trust: “With Damien Williams ruled out and Darrel Williams on injured reserve, the Chiefs’ only running backs for their showdown at New England are McCoy, inexperienced rookie Darwin Thompson and recently signed veteran Spencer Ware. This is the best time for Andy Reid to lift the playing time restriction he’s had on McCoy (maxed at 49% of snaps).” — Dave Richard, CBSSports.com
Bust: “…every time Damien Williams has been hurt or out – it’s happened four times this year – McCoy has scored at least 12 PPR points. But he’s been touchdown dependent in doing so the past two times it’s happened in Week 11 against the Chargers and in Week 13 against Oakland. He scored in both of those games, but he had 11 touches or less in each outing. And this week he’s facing a Patriots defense that has allowed just two touchdowns to opposing running backs all season.” — Jamey Eisenberg, CBSSports.com
5 Down in Week 14
Drew Brees (QB, NO)
“The 49ers rank first in schedule-adjusted pass defense, and only the Patriots have allowed fewer fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Although Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray found some success against San Francisco in recent weeks, Brees lacks the running ability of those two, making it less likely he can replicate their success.” — Kenyatta Storin, NumberFire.com
“Since Week 3, no QB has scored more than 14.5 points against the 49ers without at least 30 rushing yards.” — Matthew Berry, ESPN.com
Saquon Barkley (RB, NYG)
“Philly, despite its flaws, is robust against the run. This season, it’s conceded 3.6 yards per carry, 112.6 total yards per game, nine total touchdowns and the eighth-fewest fantasy points to RBs. It also checks in at No. 1 in power-run defense. Bottom line, squeezing between the tackles is a laborious process against Philly. It’s understandable with Fletcher Cox plugging gaps. Barkley, unbelievably outside the top-20 in RB scoring, doesn’t reach 13 fantasy points for the fourth time in five games.” — Brad Evans, Yahoo! Sports
Derrius Guice (RB, WAS)
“Guice’s Week 13 breakout against the Panthers was one of the week’s bigger storylines after he posted a 10-129-2 rushing line. However, the Panthers are dead last in run defense, and Guice’s 29.7% playing-time clip was his lowest of the season. Adrian Peterson out-snapped (23-19) and out-carried (13-10) Guice while Chris Thompson also played 23 snaps. This is a three-way running back by committee in one of the league’s worst offenses that heads out on the road again as significant 13-point underdogs.” — Nick Mensio, Rotoworld.com
D.J. Chark (WR, JAC)
“Chark has 10 PPR points or fewer in three of his past four games, and he could be held in check this week given the matchup. He’s still worth starting as a No. 3 Fantasy receiver this week, but I don’t consider him a must-start option in all formats.” — Jamey Eisenberg, CBSSports.com
Terry McLaurin (WR, WAS)
“His Week 14 matchup with Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander will be a tough one, and with a fellow rookie in Dwayne Haskins under center, we find it impossible to trust Terry in this one. Steer clear of the stand-out, and come back to him in Weeks 15/16 against Philly and the NY Giants.” — Derek McCauley, 5th Down Fantasy
